> MAJOR ARCANA:
MOON
Imagination, romanticism, illusion, intensity, emergence, emotion, reflection.
The Moon lights the gateway between the physical and metaphysical, the conscious and subconscious realms. Entering the Moon’s world is frightening, but can also be revealing and inspirational. The Moon suggests creativity and intuition, as well as possibly psychic revelations. You have to walk this journey in dark surroundings without compass or map. However, if you rely on your inner self through God to find the path, the light will not go off in spiritual and will keep on shining. This card may be scary as it shows dark magic and madness. It may mean that you are traveling a path which you don’t know where it’s leading. It may also mean you already lost your way and are struggling in darkness.
The Moon Tarot card suggests that you may experience mood swings and anxiety. Your path could be dark, ominous and uncertain. You must be willing to face your unconscious instincts and behaviors. Often, the Moon Tarot card meanings symbolize information that needs to come to the surface. This is a good time to evaluate your past behaviors. Do they align with who you want to be? The Moon sometimes informs us that one’s past behaviors will reap negative consequences in the present. The Moon also indicates the need to pay attention to your dreams, feelings and intuition. This is a good time to trust your “gut” feelings. It would also be wise to explore what drives your behavior.
> PERSONA:
Castor
Castor was the twin brother of Polydeuces and part of the Argonauts. Both Castor and Polydeuces had the same mother, Leda, but Polydeuces' father was Zeus, while Castor's father was a mortal man named Tyndareus; because of this, Castor was mortal while Polydeuces was immortal.
Castor and Polydeuces aspired to marry the Leucippides ("daughters of the white horse"), Phoebe and Hilaeira, whose father was a brother of Leucippus ("white horse"). Although both women were already betrothed to cousins of the Dioscuri, the twin brothers Lynceus and Idas of Thebes, sons of Tyndareus's brother Aphareus. Castor and Polydeuces carried the women off to Sparta, where Phoebe bore Mnesileos to Polydeuces and Hilaeira bore Anogon to Castor. This began a feud among the four cousins.
The cousins carried out a cattle-raid in Arcadia together but fell out over the division of the meat. After stealing the herd, but before dividing it, the cousins butchered, quartered, and roasted a calf. As they prepared to eat, the gigantic Idas suggested that the herd be divided into two parts instead of four, based on which pair of cousins finished their meal first. Castor and Polydeuces agreed. Idas quickly ate both his portion and Lynceus' portion. Castor and Polydeuces had been duped. They allowed their cousins to take the entire herd, but vowed to someday take revenge.
Some time later, Idas and Lynceus visited their uncle's home in Sparta. The uncle was on his way to Crete, so he left Helen in charge of entertaining the guests, which included both sets of cousins, as well as Paris, prince of Troy. Castor and Polydeuces recognized the opportunity to exact revenge, made an excuse that justified leaving the feast, and set out to steal their cousins' herd. Idas and Lynceus eventually set out for home.
Meanwhile, Castor and Polydeuces had reached their destination. Castor climbed a tree to keep a watch as Polydeuces began to free the cattle. Far away, Idas and Lynceus approached. However, Lynceus spied Castor hiding in the tree and the brothers immediately understood what was happening. Idas, furious, ambushed Castor, fatally wounding him with a blow from his spear—but not before Castor called out to warn Polydeuces.
After killing Lynceus and being saved by Zeus from Idas, Polydeuces returned to the dying Castor. Polydeuces was given the choice by Zeus of spending all his time on Mount Olympus or giving half his immortality to his mortal brother. He opted for the latter, enabling the twins to alternate between Olympus and Hades. Because of his generosity, the brothers became the two brightest stars in the constellation Gemini ("the twins"): Castor (Alpha Geminorum) and Pollux (Beta Geminorum).
